How much water should you drink for weight loss?

The holidays are fast approaching but your face is looking puffy, you feel that you've put on a ton of weight even though you've been sticking to your diet and exercise routine! That dress you've picked out for New Year's Eve is too tight for you and the bathing suit you picked up for your beach destination doesn't hide all the pudges.

Have you ever wondered why even if you are working out daily, the results don't show up on the scale? Or have you wondered why your weight differs by even as much as 3lb the next day? Why does weight fluctuate so? The main reason is due to water weight.

Water makes up 70-75% of your total body weight. When we are dehydrated, our body stubbornly holds on to every bit of water it has and causes water retention, which in turn makes us feel bloated and heavy. This is an evolutionary fact since the human body will try to maximize survival and this is a survival mechanism.

Here is a sure-fire plan to lose at least 2lb the first week of your weight loss plan! Drink at least 8 glasses of water and as much water as you can without feeling sick. This water will encourage your body to flush out the excess water.

Limit your salt intake and intake of processed foods. And of course, continue to exercise to see results.

Here are some quick tips to lose water weight fast.

 1) Drink at least 8 glasses of water.

Not drinking water will make you feel dehydrated and your body will retain more water. Contrary to what would one expect but true!!  A dehydrated body means your liver won't function as effectively as it should and as a result, the body's natural fat burning processes will slow down. Water will also flush out those toxins, making your body healthier.

Start the day with the squeeze of half a lemon in warm water. Citrus fruits contain a substance known as d- Limonene, which is known to aid in detoxification.

2) Avoid foods high in sodium.

If your diet contains too much salt, chances are you're retaining water which will make you look and feel bloated.  Most processed foods have a lot of sodium in it. Try and keep it natural. Have more water-rich and potassium-rich foods such as cucumber and watermelon which will nourish and hydrate the body.

Start by not adding salt to every meal and go easy with the seasoning when you're cooking. Avoid processed foods and opt for low-salt or unsalted options.

3) Avoid caffeine

Caffeinated beverages (tea, coffee, soda) which has a diuretic effect but will also exacerbate your body to store water. Choose green tea instead which is naturally low in caffeine. Steer clear of alcohol too, which slows down the body's natural fat-burning processes.

4) Get active

Get active to help your lymphatic system clear excess fluids. Try a Swedish beauty trick which is body brushing. Dry body brushing with a body brush on your legs and arms will help to stimulate the lymphatic system and reduce water retention.

5) Stretch it out

Do some yoga poses- back bends like the camel pose which will help to tone up the neck muscles as well as the inverted poses such as the downward dog poses which will help blood circulation to your face.
