Steel cut oats vs rolled oats vs instant oats- which is the best option?

We all know oatmeal is a great way to start your day. It's a filling breakfast- perfect to fill one up and get the right fiber and carb mix in the morning.
Being naturally gluten-free, oats is high in fibre, protein and healthy fats, giving your body the best kind of energy for the day.

Overnight Oats Preparation Method

Prepare your oats a night before with your favorite seeds and fruits and refrigerate overnight. By morning the oats would have softened up and you can wake up to a quick and delicious energetic breakfast.

Steel cut oats

Steel cut oats is the healthiest option of the three. These are very less processed whole grains as compared to the other two. They have a high fibre content and are low in glycemic index when compared to Instant and rolled oats which means they give a feeling of satiety for a longer time and maintains its calorific value.

While it takes longer to cook, it retains much of its shape even after cooking and has a toothsome, chewy texture. In addition to porridge, it can also be used as a rice alternative in numerous preparations, like risotto and much more.

Cooking Method:
  • Boil 2 cups cup skimmed milk and add ½ cup of Steel Cut Oats.
  • Cook for 10-15 minutes on medium flame, till the milk gets absorbed; or till the porridge reaches your preferred consistency.

Rolled oats

Rolled oats are processed and steamed to make them soft and flat and takes a shorter time to cook as compared to Steel cut oats. De-husking of oat groats are carried out and then slightly toasted after getting flat to help in faster cooking.

Instant oats

Instant oats is the most processed oats out of the three. Instant oats are pressed rolled and cooked for faster cooking and easy consumption. Instant oats take the fastest time to cook as compared to Steel cut and rolled oats.
