Four easy tips to recharge and regain your energy naturally

Take up a hobby like gardening to recharge your energy.

Feeling low energy and burnout?

Energy is a precious commodity these days. More and more of us are getting drained because of the demands of work, school and life. It seems like every one wants a piece of us and the pandemic is not helping at all.

Besides, the boundaries between work and after work have become so blurred when we work from home.

Do you feel tired all the time? Are you suffering from chronic fatigue?

Here are four easy tips that will help you to recharge and regain your energy naturally.

1) Regulate your zzz's!

Sleep is the foundation to lead a healthy life and recharge your energy. If you don't sleep enough or restfully, you will feel cranky, dull and easily tired. Sleeping poorly also makes you start craving for junk food.

Have a consistent sleep time to regulate your sleep cycle. The hour before you go to sleep, try to relax and get ready for bed by limiting your screen time and cooling the room. Keep your room dark by closing the drapes and turn down any lights.

Stress and anxiety can cause some people to have difficulty in falling asleep and staying asleep. Or else, it could lead to a restless sleep that leaves us lethargic and dull for the next day.

When you sleep, proteins called cytokines are released by the immune system during sleep which helps to combat against inflammation in the body.

2) Eat healthy

Imagine if what you ate was reflected in your body.  That's exactly what happens. Enjoy a healthy balanced diet with whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Ensure that you get your servings of fruits and vegetables.

If you are feeling rundown, maybe you're missing certain vital vitamins and nutrients in your diet. If you are following a specific diet or recently turned vegan, you might be missing out on some essential nutrients.

Reassess your diet to see where you can make changes. Maybe you need to up your iron intake- spinach is a good source and so is red meat in moderation. Or else, you could be running low on vitamin B12. Take a multivitamin supplement for a month to see if that improves your energy.

3)  Limit contact with energy drainers in your life

Some people seem to carry around drama with them wherever they go. Every small thing is a crisis that needs to be treated urgently. Do you know someone like that?

Then there are others who keep complaining and somehow you've become their shoulder to cry on, every time. Sounds familiar to you?

Some others always seem to see the glass as empty and carry around a black cloud of misery which they are looking to dump on you. Do you always come away from such conversations with all the energy sucked out of you?

Needless to say, such so-called "energy vampires" can end up draining your energy. If it's not a problem that you can resolve or it's not a close relationship in your life that you need to maintain, limit time and contact with such energy drainers.  Keep a handy list of excuses on hand to reduce your conversation. Learn the art of deflection- when someone starts to complain about something trivial and you know it's going to be a long conversation, change the topic to something else.

4) Practise 15 minutes of yoga every day

Yoga not only has benefits for your mind and body but it can help improve sleep and boost your energy.

If you're too stressed and burned out, it's probably time to take a step away from your regular exercise routine. Too much HIIT (high intensity interval exercise) can lead to increased cortisol (stress hormone) which saps up your energy. Or if you're doing too much too soon, you could be suffering from the effects of over training which can increase the risk of injuries or illness.

Learn to strike a balance in your exercise routine. Consider lowering the intensity and avoid exercising too late in the evening as this can disturb your sleep.

Practise simple yoga moves for 15 to 30 minutes every day to wind down and reduce your stress. Yoga back bend moves help to relieve anxiety and stress by stretching your spine and opening up your body to breathe more deeply.
